Artistic exercises with clay in the forest are the result of research in the field of the concept of nature in relation to the idea of separation from the rest of the living world with which we share this planet.
Dušan Rodić approaches the problem of the division of our environment into nature and culture from a psychological aspect. The term biophilia was used by Erich Fromm to describe the human urge to connect with other living beings. This term was developed by Edward O. Wilson in the Biophilia hypothesis. People are connected to their environment beyond their senses, which has become less important due to the rise of digital communication. By losing connection to our bodies and our senses, we lose connection to the living world around us.
The artistic tasks and exercises compiled and designed by Dušan Rodić aim to redirect attention to physical intelligence in order to achieve emotional balance. The awakening of consciousness in relation to our senses opens up the possibility of communicating with the living world around us. Activating the body and awakening the senses are key to dissolving feelings of separation from nature.
Dušan Rodić, born in Belgrade (SRB), studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten and at the Berlin University of Arts. Dušan Rodić uses functional everyday objects for his sculptures and installations. In his artistic research he deals with the problem of the division of the environment into nature and culture. The psychological approach helps to understand human perception, interpretation and interaction with the environment. Rodić actively works with the audience itself and develops a series of practical exercises, which are mostly practiced in nature-related places and using natural materials. Dušan Rodić lives and works in Berlin.
Erde-Workshop is a part of the two-year collaborative project
Artistic Ecologies: New Compasses, Tools and Alliances conceived in collaboration with WHW, Zagreb, the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Amsterdam, and Neue Nachbarschaft/Moabit, Berlin.
The program is co-funded by European Union and Foundation Between
